Crossbow Deer Hunting Tips

There are a couple of misconceptions regarding the use of crossbows. The first one is that
they are easy to target and shoot something. And, the second one is they are ideal for
beginner deer hunters. But how do these wrong ideas evolve? Let's find out.   


The explanation for the first misconception is that the design of crossbows has some
similarities with a firearm. Like a rifle, a crossbow features buttstock, for grip, and pistol grip.
So, shooting an arrow using a crossbow is like firing a bullet using a rifle. 


And, the reason for the second misconception is that once the state authorities heavily restrict
hunting deer using a crossbow.
They (state authorities) only allow those crossbow deer hunters who can prove that they have
certain disabilities regarding hunting using compound bows or recurve bows.




However, Crossbows are sensitive and powerful. Deer hunting using crossbows require
patience, a strong grasp and a tremor-free hand. Achieving all of these skills require years of
practice. So, the fact that the skill required to hunt deer with a crossbow is not possible
overnight. Below are eight important tips to hunt deer using a crossbow


Know the relevant law regarding deer hunting 


Laws regarding deer hunting using bows are complicated. Many states do not allow hunting
all year round. The hunting rules also vary regarding draw weight, an important feature of the
bow, that denotes how much  powerful the bow is. You need to know the maximum draw
weight that the state corresponding authority allow to hunt a deer. 


Be ethical


Animal rights activists strongly believe that hunting wild animals is unethical and inhumane act
. So, while hunting deer using a crossbow stay ethical as much as possible. Be respectful to
the deer you intend to hunt and nature. You also need to show respect to other fellow hunters.


Practice


There is no compromise with crossbow target practicing. At the beginning of this we already
mentioned that achieving skill of accurate bowhunting shooting required hours of painstaking
practice. You are also required to participate in archery classes to hone your hunting skills. 


Be aware of safety


Crossbows are lethal weapons. So, do not shoot it anything or anywhere unnecessarily.

Keep your presence unnoticeable

Deer can detect the presence of hunters easily thanks to their acute smelling and hearing
ability. So, during a deer hunting trip try to conceal your presence as much as possible.
